It might sound strange, but some people really do believe that having a pillowcase made from silk makes a huge difference to the quality of their beauty sleep. But is there any truth to the claim that silk pillowcases are better? Well, surprising as it sounds, there is.
The main reason that silk is recommended over cotton bedding, and especially over polyester bedding, is that silk is smoother and will let your hair and skin move over it without much friction. This can reduce split ends and breakages in your hair, as well as having an added bonus for those with thicker hair. Silk pillowcases are said to be good for anyone who has thick hair as the smooth fabric helps to prevent kinks and fly-aways.
Silk is also helpful if you often wake up to find that you’ve got crease marks on your face from where the pillowcase became rucked up overnight. Sleeping on a silk pillowcase lessens the chances of waking up with funny lines imprinted over your face.
These are fairly minor benefits it has to be said, but if you suffer from acne, rosacea, dry skin, or another skin condition which can be exacerbated by abrasive materials, then a silk pillowcase could be a very good idea. Sleeping on silk will almost certainly leave your skin looking less red and puffy in the morning.
The last big plus point for silk is that it has a cooling effect, so if you find that you overheat and sweat easily then silk bedding could make a difference for you, and particularly so during the summer months.
