You’ve probably heard the phrase, “think big, act small”. When it comes to our environmental impact there are lots of things we can do that, if we all tried to do, could make a big difference. These are just a few of them.
Replace your kitchen roll
Instead of using kitchen paper, try using tea towels or old rags instead. You could also switch out paper tissues for a fabric handkerchief that can be washed and reused too.
Buy vintage
The vast amounts of new clothes that are produced each year puts a big strain on the environment. Why not shop vintage instead? You can find unique pieces, look amazing, and do your bit for the environment.
Carry your own coffee mug
Most cafes and coffee shops are happy to fill up your own reusable coffee mug when you order a takeaway hot drink, instead of giving you a disposable one, if you ask them to. If we went down the reusable coffee cup path, that would be an awful lot of cardboard cups and plastic lids that could be saved.
Use your exercise time as a chance for a cleanup
You may well have heard of plogging – the combination of jogging and picking up litter (the name comes from the Swedish: plocka upp). Plogging is one way you can combine your exercise time with doing environmental good, but equally, you could dedicate a half an hour each week to doing a plastic clean-up session at a slower pace.
Buy local
By buying food which comes from local producers, you can greatly reduce the carbon footprint of the food you eat. After all, the further the food has had to travel to make it to the shop, the bigger its carbon footprint will be.
