Spring may be just around the corner, but it’s not here yet. Sadly we’re still in the winter colds season.
If you’re one of those who’re unlucky enough to be suffering with a winter cold at the moment, and paracetamol/ibuprofen just aren’t cutting it or you’d rather go the natural route, then hopefully this rundown on the herbs to help relieve your symptoms will be useful!
Lemon balm
Lemon balm is a gentle herb with mild antiviral properties, and can be good for helping to sweat out a fever if you have one. If taking lemon balm as a tea, it can be done by adding a tablespoon of the chopped herb to a cup of boiling water.
Sage
Sage is particularly good for sore throats. It’s also known to kill bacteria and calm irritated tissues (the bodily kind, not the paper kind…). The taste of sage as a tea can be improved by adding a little honey and/or dried apple.
Rosemary
Rosemary is said to help the circulatory system, and in doing so it is thought that it may help to alleviate headaches by stimulating blood flow to the brain. If breathed in via steam inhalation it’s supposed to be very good for unblocking sinuses.
